Juliana Rico (b. San Jose) is a visual artist working primarily in photography and video. She earned her MFA in Creative Photography from California State University Fullerton and BFA in Photography from San Jose State University. Juliana mixes a detached scientific approach with a quotidian and personal subject matter to create subjective maps that examine emotions felt, places encountered, and experiences lived. The works investigate the body in both surface and function to scrutinize social perceptions of gender and femininity.Rico’s photographic and video work has been showcased nationally including Woman Made Gallery and ARC Gallery in Chicago, the University of Texas at Arlington, Los Angeles Center for Digital Photography, Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach and throughout Southern California. Rico is co-founder of the Emerging Artist Society and a Lecturer at Cal Poly Pomona and Santa Ana College. She lives and works in Southern California.
